Project description

Egypt Hydrocarbon Corp. (EHC) has proposed building a petrochemical complex approximately 25 km (15.5 miles) from Suez, Egypt, near the Red Sea.

EHC has selected KBR to complete a pre-front end engineering design (pre-FEED) study for two polyethylene (PE) units at the proposed facility. Under this study, KBR will evaluate PE technology and recommend a licensor to EHC. Current plans call for the installation of two PE plants, and each plant will having a nominal capacity of 450 kta. According to KBR, the plants will be targeted to produce a broad range of high density polyethylene (HDPE) and linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) resins.

Prior to receiving the pre-FEED contract, KBR completed various prefeasibility studies for proposed plants at the complex. These plants include the following: ammonia, ammonium nitrate, naphtha cracker, polyethylene, and methanol plants. In addition, KBR has completed a master plot plan study for the complex.
